Thoughts behind the scene

I talked to tutors and also show my final pieces to my friends and ask them for feed backs. Most of them are have positive comments which is good:)  The bad comments are mostly on the "Boys take 10 mins.......", is a bit too long. However, the tutors think the length of the film is good. So I just leave it as it is.

Moreover, there is something really personal in the final piece of "The Little Facts", and also in the word, "FACTS", that made out of Polaroid photos.

The right hand side is moving through different people in different places. And in actual fact, they are all chelsea foundation students which I know them during rotation and VisCom now. I delebrately cut out all the other friends which are not in Chelsea and chose the song, "Photograph". The lyrics of the song fits perfects with the meaning behind it: memory of the whole course.

Besides, I don't think anyone would notice this but the change in places is actually from the student hall I live in, to the Chelsea the door near Tate Britain. Then along to VisCom. Around VisCom then carry on to 3D studio. Finally some photos been taken near the entrance (symbolise leaving Chelsea). With the final photo taken in Elephant and Castle (heading to LCC for my BA course next year).

Here we go, this is the two very little details I presented really secretly~

There is another personal 'fact' in this piece as well.

The word "C" meaning "Chelsea", the 8 people in there are the closest friend around me in the foundation course.

The word "F" meaning "Fred" (me), which the 10 people in there are also my best friends but they are not all from chelsea, some of them are my high school friend as well.

However, I'm not saying the other photos in this piece are meaningless, but the people in "F" and "C" are just very important to me through out my life or this year.

FACTS

Last but not least, after finish filming, now I can use the Polarid photos to make the 'word' out=]

Here are the phots during sticking them together:

Finishing editing "The Little Facts"

Another Final piece finish~~~~~ Actually I finish yesterday night but I don't have time to blog it. But after talking to the tutors, I made some changes to the film. Anyway, here are the screen shots of the film:

1. My friend take a photo of me

 2. We look at the photo

3. No. 2 fade out and fade back in with the photos I took before hand is displaying on the left screen and the photo just took from No. 1 and 2 is been putting down on to the table and waiting for it to develop.

4. same as No. 3, you can see the photo is developing.

5, After all the photos flick through and the photo of me finish developing, the scene fade out and fade back in to this one below. Finally, a stop- motion video displayed in big screen at the end to show the fact I wrote.

However, after talking to tutors, the last screen shot of the video has actually changed to the one BELOW:

So the stop-motion of my writing is playing side by side with the photos of other people's facts rather than at the end having a big screen of stop-motion of my writing coming up. Then just fade out at the same time when both finish playing.

The changes has been made is because the photo of me,  there was  nothing much really happening during only halfway through the video. I can't speed the video up because then people can't read the facts on the left. So the tutors advice me to add in the stop motion within it as well. Which then, more time on editing needed. Because the frame size of the images are different to the frame size of the video. In order to not make the video playing more smoothly, I need to get the frame of the images as the same size as the frame of the video does.

'Ages' later, I made them work. Though, other changes like speed of the left side need to slow down because is playing too quick. I made it each images play a bit longer then the whole video is too long and people will easily get bored. Therefore, need to cut down the images within that video.

After all these sort of things, slow something down, speeding something up...etc, I finally finished all my final pieces^^!!! (only end up with 2 anyway...)

Now, I just need to let the tutors have a last look at my works and asking people how they feel about my final pieces.

Filming "Chok Yeung"

Firstly, I planned out what is in the video and I will tell you about it before launching out loads of photos.

Basically, at the start, 1st model comes in and posting up saying 'Today I'm going to teach you what's "Chok Yeung" ' Then the 2nd model comes in, push the 1st model away  and say, "I'm going to show you the real one.'

Then photos of them both flicking through, in split screen , kind of stop- motion at the start but then is only photos of them "Chok-ing". Is like a battle between them. This will happen for 30s.

After that, a third person comes in, ideally is an Englishman. He then explain what's the meaning of "Chok Yeung".

Here are the photos I took on that day, Check it out:

1. Post up on their own, 2nd model 1st because he pushes the 1st model away.

2. 1st model "fight" back by using "Chok Yeung".

3. Then they are using same "objects" to "Chok".

4. Carry on but each using different objects.

5. Then changing places and carry on "Chok"

During halfway through filming and taking photographs of this idea, I just knew this is not going to fit in with the other 2 ideas and is a long way to call this a final piece.... Besides, the models and I got carried away, they just making random posts which don't really fit in to the title and I just kept on capturing them because they look funny~~~

However I will still put it in and say it is a development work, and say the idea doesn't work (like the "Colgate" and the "Daily Facts"....). Most importantly, I will take more photos and finish making the video in my own time after I have finish the course. Because I think this idea have a lot of potential to let people to have a good laugh aboutXD!!!

Finishing editing "Boys take 10mins to get ready. Girls take Forever."

Finally Finished!!!! I finally got it down to just 3mins and it looks good@.@!!! But I still think I need to edited down a bit more because it still feels a bit long.

Here's a screen shot during playing the film=]]]

Furthermore, There is one more bad news... When I'm playing this on a big screen, 'this thing' happened...:

Don't actually need to look closely to this screen shot- image, and u can already see the pixels (squares) in the film... This is probably due to the camera when I'm filming it...... All I can say now is use a better camera to film next time...

But other than that, this works all right. Besides, it works amazingly with the background music I chosed;) The music merged with the pace of the people moving in the film perfectlyX)))

Idea 03- "Chok Yeung"....?

"Chok Yeung" is a phrase in cantonese meaning a guy that make faces really looking cool. If yuo want to know more about it, watch the video below;)

This idea comes up suddenly during everyone were commenting on the photos of me that been taken by my friend during the afternoon. Here are the 2 photos:

This idea is kind of related to the other 2 ideas as well. Because is related to our age group and the fact that all the boys are usually posting something like this all the time.

So I decided to find 2 model and film them on Sunday, talk ed to tutor on Monday to see would this idea work@.@!!

"Little Facts" Preparation

After finishing filming "Boys take 10 mins to get ready. Girls take forever." I talked to the tutors and tell them the way I'm going to present the video. They like the idea of using split screens. And they tell me I should use split screens for this video as well.

So I planned that at the start, someone took a photograph off me (that idea stayed with me). Fade out after that. Then fade back in, split screens come up, photos that with facts on, on 1 side, the other screen will be playing the developing film that someone took it for me at the starting scene. Finally all the photos gone through and the developing finished,  fade out. Then fade in again, but in big screen this time to show the fact about me in stop- motion mode.

If you don't understand, there will be storyboard uploaded later;)

Therefore, filming need to start ASAP!!!

Filming, editing and finishing "Boys take 10mins to get ready. Girls take Forever."

I got a really good reason not to blog and keep up my reflective journal for the last 2 days... I have been filming and pretty much finish editing now for this video.

Because I'm using split screens to for this video, I need to use a new program called 'Final Cut Pro'. Now is where things gone complicated.... Here is a Screen Shot of how it looks:

It looks complicated and it is very hard to use... Luckily I kind of start editing down earlier in the 'new plan' (orginial plan is a final piece each week, now I only need to work on 2 or 3, so a bit of time have squeeze out.).  But still... with at least 12 mins of film (just the girl I'm talking about...), I need at least 3 days to finish it.

Though, after talked to tutor, Max, she taught me some of the basic stuff and I watched quite a bit of the tutorial on You Tube.  I managed to work much quicker. Though, there was a problem during editing. Because I want to speed up something up, but they doesn't let me fo it at all... Did everything tutorial tell me need to do, it still not work...

Nevertheless, I talked to Max again and she told me I should try not to speed things up because that will change the pace of the film, which it may just go wrong.

Thanks to this advice, I decided just to fade in and fade out between parts that they don't linked to each other. Because of the girl did a lot of things, (try clothes on, put them down, try other clothes, put make up...etc), when I was editing it down I was worrying that there will be too much fading in and out, which will screw the video up...

However, I think it worked quite well~~!!!! I'm still editing it down, trying to get down to 3 mins at least. Hopes it goes well=]

Here are the photos of the video. Basically is the storyboard of the video, hope you like it:)

 Girl wakes up, boy sleeping.

The girl keeps doing what she does everyday and the boy sleep until really late.

The boy 'got up', that bit he was just dreaming and suddenly wakes up. Just saying this in case you don't under stand.

At the 2nd last photos, The boy is hurrying the girl up, is kind of not making sense because they ar not in the same room but is just an imagination to be honest~.~

How does the boy get ready then? I used stop motion in between the video. There is a photo of me setting it up and a photo of the end of the stop- motion part in the video:

Unfortuately..... I have spelling mistake yet again.... "BUSHING" teeth...... I can't believe I did that and there is no kind of way and can video that part back.... ALWAYS LOOK OUT FOR SPELLING MISTAKE..!!!

Other than that, I think the video is going to be awsome;)!!!
